The road to April Fools is lined with Easter eggs

Rafael Padron
The MKE Unplugged concert series continues with March 28th’s show featuring Paul Geremia at the Zelazo Center for Performing Arts on UWM’s campus. The Italian-American singer/songwriter is a seasoned bluesman, having produced ten solo albums over the last four decades. The show is free and begins at 8 p.m.
Cuban-born classical guitarist Rafael Padron will perform a recital this Friday, March 29th at PSOA’s Recital Hall, 2400 E. Kenwood Blvd. He has played internationally for decades and has won several awards for his technical prowess. Padron is currently a faculty instructor at The University of Miami and the Florida International University. Tickets are $12 or less, and are available online or at the box office: 414-229-4308.

Thao and the Get Down Stay Down will be at Turner Hall on Saturday, March 30 with Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside. The upbeat indie darling Thao Nguyen has collaborated with other charming singers and experimental bands such as Mirah, Joanna Newsom, The Thermals, and several others. She also just finished up a tour with WNYC’s Radiolab Live. Tickets are only $13 and are available online or at the box office: 414 286-3205.
Visual Art
The Racine Art Museum will present the winners of its Fourth Annual International PEEPS Competition beginning on March 29. Judging will be based on best representation and creativity in use of the bright, fluffy personified marshmallows, and there will be prizes in both adult and children’s categories. The perishable art will be on display until April 14, and admission to the museum is free with membership, or $3-5 for adults.
Milwaukee Ballet II
The Superhero Milwaukee Ballet II Dancers will premiere a New Show featuring students grades K-5. at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 27 at the South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center. The dancers will defy gravity while addressing physical fitness, healthy living, and building confidence through the power of dance. Comedy
Comedian Mike Epps will be at the Milwaukee Theatre this Friday, March 29. Growing in popularity since the mid-1990s, he’s performed alongside superstars such as Cuba Gooding Jr., Beyonce Knowles and James Earl Jones. The Los Angeles screen veteran and producer will perform stand-up with special guest Dominique. Tickets are $45-55 online or at the box office: 1-800-745-3000.
Sugar Maple (441 E. Lincoln Ave.) will host a combination April Fool’s Day Comedy Show and 5th birthday party on Monday, April 1. Lara Beitz will host a show featuring stand-up comics Sammy Arechar, Erik Koconis, Ryan Lowe, and Ryan Holman and music by Amanda Huff. There will be beer specials from North Coast Brewery. Admission is $5 for those 21+.
Special Events
RAW:natural born artists hosts its second Milwaukee event, Generation, at The Rave on Thursday, March 28. The multi-faceted night will showcase live music, dance, a fashion show, and visual art (featuring TCD’s former photo intern, Jennell Jenney). Almost all the work is for sale and directly supports the artists. Tickets are $10 in advance, so buy a ticket for your favorite artist and stick around for the show.
ART Milwaukee’s second multimedia ART Jamboree will take place on March 29 at Milwaukee 
Makerspace in Bay View (2555 S. Lenox St.). The night’s theme is appropriately deemed The Maker, and will offer complimentary tea, beer, and spirit tastings as well as free food from Transfer Pizza from 6-7 p.m. Several 2-D visual artists will show work. Danceworks students will perform. Sat. Nite Duets (featuring TCD intern Ben Guccardi), DJs Westgate and Paul Finger will provide music, and Makerspace will demonstrate technophile robots and lasers. The event is free from 7-11 p.m.
Looking to channel your inner child on Good Friday? Unless you gave up fun for Lent, you may want to stop by the Iron Horse Hotel’s lobby for their Adult Easter Egg Hunt. You could win a free appetizer, cocktails, or a complimentary stay. The search begins promptly at 7 p.m. on March 29. More information is available at the Iron Horse website.
