TCD’s Winter Gallery Night Guide

This weekend's gallery options get broken down, neighborhood by neighborhood.

Over 60 venues will be showing art for Gallery Night and Day in the Historic Third Ward and around Milwaukee this weekend. Photo: Angela Morgan

Put on your warm, fuzzy scarf – fine, maybe a beret – and get ready for an urban winter adventure: let’s go out for Gallery Night.

This edition of the quarterly event brings together more than 60 venues showing the gamut of contemporary art. The stomping grounds for the evening range from the downtown epicenters of East Town and the East Side, to the Historic Third Ward, Bay View, Riverwest, and beyond.

The Gallery Night Express bus will get you around with two different routes, the East Town/Historic Third Ward Route and the Harley-Davidson Museum Route, circling every 15 minutes to make gallery hopping more hospitable in the winter wind.

If outdoor art piques your interest, especially when done with chainsaws, hang out in the Third Ward on Friday. The 10th Annual Sculptures on Ice competition begins at 10 a.m. A gallery of icy blocks will be transformed into pieces on this year’s theme, “Flora and Fauna.” The artists will have until 6 p.m. to finish their cool inspirations, and with the winner announced at 7 p.m. at Club Charlies.

ThirdCoast Digest will be there to capture this year’s Gallery Night as it happens. Tag your tweets with #TCDart to join the conversation here, and follow TCD on Twitter at @TCDigest.
