It’s hard to believe that almost a year has passed since artist Katie Musolff took over for Reggie Baylor as the Pfister Hotel’s second-ever artist in residence. The focus of her work, as outlined in her original application, has been the Pfister’s employees, and Musolff’s realistic style of portraiture is well-served by her subject matter.

For her final work, commissioned to be purchased by the Pfister Hotel, Musolff chose to create a large portait of longtime Pfister lobby pianist, Jeffrey Hollander. This is the first of three videos TCD wil publish chronicling the creation of this painting.

Katie’s last Gallery Night as the Pfister’s Artist in Residence is next Friday, January 21. Join her at 9 p.m. for a reception in the Rouge Ballroom, with complimentary snacks and a cash bar. Be sure to stop by her studio to see Jeffrey’s portrait in progress and to vote for your favorite finalists for the 2011 Residency.

I look forward to watching Katie’s progression on her signature work to remain in the Pfister’s collection after her departure! Join me in visiting her studio often over these next 75 days to watch this project come to a conclusion!
