Beane is an exile from life—an oddball. His well-meaning sister, Joan, and brother-in-law, Harry, try and make time for him in their busy lives, but no one can get through. Following a burglary on Beane’s apartment, Joan is baffled to find her brother blissfully happy and tries to unravel the story behind his mysterious new love, Molly. Funny, enchanting and wonderfully touching, John Kolvenbach’s offbeat comedy is a rhapsody to the power of love in all its forms.

Prime Cuts, Sunset Playhouse, 5/20-5/29
Joel Kopischke and some special guests offer a collection of songs that were cut from musicals on their way to Broadway or the silver screen. Included are numbers that still managed to become standards and nearly-lost gems from
Guys & Dolls, West Side Story, and the Wizard of Oz.

Rent, Skylight Opera Theatre, Broadway Theatre Center Cabot Theatre, 5/21-6/20
Set in 1989 New York City’s thriving Bohemian East Village, RENT is a modern take on Puccini’s 1896 classic,
La Boheme
. With a driving rock score integrating dance, pop, rock ‘n roll, R&B and salsa, RENT features video artists, performance artists, guitarists, strippers, cross-dressers, and drug addicts all trying to find themselves and find their way in a tumultuous society.

Sex, Drugs, and the American Way, Pink Banana Theatre Co., Off-Broadway Theatre, 5/21-6/20
Staying true to its mission, Pink Banana Theatre continues to produce works from aspiring local playwrights, directors and actors.
“Sex, Drugs and the American Way
,” PB’s annual one-act theatre festival, will feature Milwaukee’s own  as well as some national playwrights.

Rigoletto, Florentine Opera, Marcus Center Uihlein Hall, 5/21-5/23
Rigoletto is the captivating tale of a father’s love and devotion, a daughter’s unwittingly misplaced infatuation and a Duke’s lascivious and reckless ways. From the Duke’s La donna e mobile to the renowned Quartet and Gilda’s wistful Caro nome, Rigoletto is a veritable “Verdi’s Greatest Hits” album.
Conducted by Joseph Rescigno with stage direction by William Florescu, this production features Luis Ledesma and Peter Castaldi as Rigoletto, soprano Georgia Jarman as Gilda, and tenor Arturo Chacon-Cruz as the Duke.

Sing, Dance, Celebrate!, Milwaukee Children’s Choir, South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center, 5/23
Hundreds of singers grades 1-12 celebrate song and dance at MCC’s season finale, featuring Mendelssohn, Schubert, Strid, Lauridson, and selections from Feeney’s Peter Pan.

Dick Cavett at Ten Chimneys, 5/22
The host of The Dick Cavett Show — which aired on ABC from 1968 to 1975 and on public television from 1977 to 1982 — Dick Cavett is also the co-author of two books, Cavett (1974) and Eye on Cavett (1983). He has appeared on Broadway in Otherwise Engaged, Into the Woods and as narrator in The Rocky Horror Show, and has made guest appearances in movies and on TV shows including Forrest Gump and The Simpsons. Talk Show, Dick Cavett’s extremely popular blog, currently appears on The New York Times website. Mr. Cavett is looking forward to journeying to Ten Chimneys to share stories about his extraordinary life and career, including his recollections of the legendary episode of The Dick Cavett Show that featured Alfred Lunt, Lynn Fontanne, and their lifelong pal Noël Coward.
