A Streetcar Named Desire, Carte Blanche Studios, 4/22-5/8
That classic steamy tale of lust, violence and the charm and elegance of the old world colliding with the brash, harsh realities of the new world.  One of Tennessee Williams’ finest achievements as staged by Carte Blanche.

Spirits to Enforce, Youngblood Theatre, Miller & Campbell Costume Services Building, 907 S. 1st St. Milwaukee, 4/22-5/10
Twelve superheroes take up residence in a secret submarine to hold a fundraising drive for their upcoming production of William Shakespeare’s The Tempest. Seriously. Infusing elements of Shakespeare’s language, comic book lore and choral arrangement, Mickle Maher’s Spirits to Enforce is a unique theatrical experience.

The M.U.T.E.S. : A Night of Gaiety (not that kind), Alchemist Theatre, 4/23-26
The Marvelous Unspeaking Troupe of Entertaining Scoundrels, better known as, The M.U.T.E.S. are the nation’s premiere silent film-style sketch comedy troupe. They’ve been performing their own unique brand of vaudevillian revival around the Milwaukee area for a year now. You may have seen them at Next Act, Pridefest, Turner Hall, in one of many burlesque shows around town or maybe at The Alchemist. They’re celebrating their one year anniversary with their best skits of the past year and some brand new material. Get ready to party like it’s 1929.

American Fiesta, Renaissance Theaterworks, Broadway Theatre Center, 4/23-5/23
An obsessive collector deals with his Oklahoma parents’ opposition to his same-sex marriage, as he travels across America to find the “perfect piece” of vintage Fiestaware. His comical journey reveals a fresh, hopeful look at our country’s cultural/political divide and the many ways we can find common ground. Milwaukee’s own John McGivern will play over 20 different characters in this tour de force role.

Dames, Dolls and Divas, Sunset Playhouse, 4/26-27
Here’s to Girl Power! Four local cabaret artists — Eric Nelson, Rana Roman, Becky Spice and Linda Stieber, along with rising star Ellen Jenders, will join forces to pay tribute to songs by, for and about women.

The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra presents Lang Lang, Marcus Center Uihlein Hall, 4/21
Lang Lang was known to the classical music world by the age of 20. A sensation at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Lang Lang now joins Edo de Waart and the Milwaukee Symphony for Prokofiev’s blistering Third Piano Concerto.

Susan Egan, Sharon Lynn Wilson Center for the Arts, 4/21
Tony-nominated as the original “Belle” in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, critically acclaimed as Broadway’s longest-running “Sally Bowles” in Cabaret and most recently “Millie” in Thoroughly Modern Millie, Susan Egan interprets classics from composers such as Rodgers and Hammerstein, the Gershwins, and Kander and Ebb.

Nashville Cats, Matt Schroeder, Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, 4/22
Matt returns for his annual fingerstyle guitar concert with an interesting twist. This year he pays tribute to some of Nashville’s greatest pickers, including Chet Atkins, Merle Travis and Jerry Reed. Joining Matt will be fellow guitar faculty members Tom Clippert and Paul Silbergleit.

Tchaikovsky’s “Pathetique,” Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Marcus Center Uihlein Hall, 4/23-4/25
Edo de Waart leads Tchaikovsky’s final work — the magnificent “Pathetique” Symphony. Plus, a tale of forbidden love, Faure’s graceful setting of Pelléas et Mélisande.

I like Tchaik, Festival City Symphony, Pabst Theatre, 4/25
A concert of music by Peter Ilyitch. Tchaikovsky will conclude the FCS season, featuring his Shakespeare-inspired Romeo and Juliet Overture-Fantasy and his autobiographic Symphony No. 5.

Prometheus Trio, Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, 4/26-27
The Prometheus Trio concludes their season with a program including Shostakovich’s Trio No. 1 in C Minor, Op. 8, Lalo’s Trio No. 3 in A Minor, Lili Boulanger’s D’un matin de printemps, and Mendelssohn’s Trio in D Minor, Op. 49.

Speaking of Happiness, Wild  Space Dance Company, Milwaukee Rep’s Steimke Theatre, 4/22-24
This emotionally charged evening explores the elusive nature of happiness. ‘How do we find it? Why does it matter?’ Inspired by our quest for fervor, joy and exuberance, this compelling new work features contributions by dancers/choreographers Monica Rodero and Dan Schuchart and collaborations with company dancers.

Shen Yun Performing Arts, Milwaukee Theatre, 4/23-24
The Wisconsin Falun Dafa Association presents Shen Yun Performing Arts, the world’s premier Chinese dance and music company. Shen Yun brings to life classical Chinese dance and music in a gloriously colorful and exhilarating show. This company of elite dancers, singers and musicians is accompanied by a full orchestra.

Mark Nadler: Music in the Drawing Room, Ten Chimneys, 4/23-24
Once a year, Ten Chimneys offers up the rare opportunity to sit in the mural-filled Drawing Room of Ten Chimneys, with a small number of friends around you to enjoy a private concert by a world-class cabaret singer playing the Noël Coward Piano. 2010 is the 75th anniversary of the Lunts’ legendary production of The Taming of the Shrew, which inspired the Cole Porter musical Kiss Me, Kate. In celebration, Mark Nadler has agreed to perform his world-renowned Cole Porter show, Let’s Misbehave! A Cole Porter Soiree. The show includes such timeless hits as “Let’s Do It (Let’s Fall In Love),” “Night And Day” and “You’re The Top” — as well as many lesser known gems.
