John Steinbeck peers from a bridge abutment on 65th and Burnham in West Allis

Could this be the result of a marauding book club that just finished reading East of Eden? Or have the smart kids at the local high school decided to show off their artistic skills?

Either way, this made me stop my car near 65th and Burnham and go, “Why the h*** is John Steinbeck on the bridge wall?”

A hint to the police — you may want to scan library checkout records when searching for suspects!

Nice post Patti–the stencil is exquisite.

Seems to me that the application of paint and resulting shading is pretty exquisite as well. That’s technique beyond cutting a stencil. Thanks for the image.
